Alki David – FilmOn.com
Alki David is not afraid to break down barriers whether it is drilling into a bank vault as he stars in the hit movie The Bank Job or at home in England as he redefines content distribution with his brainchild FilmOn.com. Although Alki David is a member of one of the wealthiest families in Greece, he chooses to make his own way in life. IFQ recently had the opportunity to chat with him about his acting and FilmOn.com.
IFQ: Alki, you are in the hit movie The Bank Job. How did you get that part?
Alki David: A few years ago I was introduced to an agent who believed in me. I had done some TV series and I auditioned and got the part in The Bank Job. It was a great opportunity to work with Jason Statham.
IFQ: Was he nice to you?
AD: Well there is a funny story about that. Before I began shooting The Bank Job, I was shooting a film (Fishtales) with Billy Zane and Kelly (Brook). During my first few days on set of The Bank Job, I was chatting to everyone that Billy and Kelly were wonderful and we had such a great time. What I did not know at that time was that when Jason was first beginning in acting, he had dated Kelly and it was Billy Zane who went out with her right afterwards. I was wondering why Jason was a little pissed at me during the first few days. Later we talked and he told me that he thought I was teasing him, but I told him I had no idea so from then on we were real cool.
IFQ: Tell us about FilmOn.com.
AD: It is content distribution through the internet.
IFQ: What makes it different than the others like Cinema Now, HP, etc.?
AD: We have mainstream films as well as really great things you can not find elsewhere. Our motto is “Film On find your thing.” We have places on our site where independent filmmakers can upload their films and win cash prizes. For bigger distribution, we offer white label sites to independent distributors and studios. They offer their films and keep 100 percent of all money.
IFQ: 100 percent. How can you do that?
AD: We have advertising revenue. Also we get to offer their films on our site and we get 50/50 split on that.
IFQ: Is there anything else that really set Film On apart from the other download sites?
AD: Yes. We are spending at least $ 200 million on advertising. Right now in the UK, we advertise on buses, in theaters and on television.
